 Arum italicum |
Native Region: Crete, Eastern Balkans Zone Range: 07-09 Preferred Climate: Temperate woodland Harvest Date: Tuesday 22 September, 2009 Seed count: 15-20
Description: Dark green glossy leaves emerge in winter and persist until late spring. When the leaves are finished the greenish-white flower spathes emerge. By late summer they develop bright red to orange berries, which may persist until the next crop of leaves arise in late autumn.
Cultivation: Soak seed in pure clean water for 24-36 hours before planting. Sow seeds in autumn in containers in a coldframe, or other sheltered location. These tuberous perennials require moderately rich, well-drained soil. Excellent for a lightly shaded woodland garden. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
